The Nigerian federal government has said that the country’s crude oil production surged to 1.7 million barrels per day from 1.1mbpd under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu last year.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, disclosed this on Thursday at a Ministerial Sectoral Briefing ahead of Tinubu’s first anniversary.

He noted that Nigeria witnessed increased crude oil production following the arrival of OMLs 13 (Sterling Exploration) and 85 (First E&P).

“These assets are expected to produce an average of 20,000 and 40,000 barrels per day, respectively.

“Our foremost achievement is the significant increase in production. When we took office, production was at approximately 1.1 million barrels per day, including condensates.

“Today, I am proud to report that we have increased our production to approximately 1.7 million barrels per day (including condensate). This increase is a testament to our relentless efforts to streamline operations and resolve stakeholder conflict,” the oil minister stated.

The development came as Nigeria regained its top spot as the largest oil producer in Africa.
