The Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has praised President Bola Tinubu, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, the Supreme Court, and several key political figures for what it described as their bold defence of democracy—particularly in crisis-ridden Rivers State.
Acting state PDP chairman George Turnah, in a statement through his media aide Kelvin Loveday-Egbo, hailed Tinubu, Wike, the apex court, 27 pro-Wike lawmakers in Rivers State, PDP National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and South-South PDP zonal chairman Chief Dan Orbih for their “unwavering commitment to democratic values” in 2025.
Turnah said President Tinubu had shown exceptional political courage and leadership by standing firm during the constitutional turmoil in Rivers.
He noted that the Supreme Court’s recent verdict, which painted a bleak picture of democratic governance in the state, reaffirmed Tinubu’s resolve to uphold integrity and constitutional order.
“President Tinubu has shown uncommon boldness. His leadership has been critical in restoring democratic sanity in Rivers,” Turnah stated.
He also lauded the Supreme Court as the “guardian of justice,” applauding its verdict that condemned the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, for undemocratic actions and described him as a despot.
“The Court’s forthright judgment is a powerful reminder that even the most powerful must be held accountable,” he added.
Wike also received glowing praise for his “relentless war against impunity” within the PDP and Rivers governance.
Turnah described the former Rivers governor as a frontline fighter for democracy whose actions have reignited hope among citizens for more transparent leadership.
He further hailed the 27 pro-Wike members of the Rivers House of Assembly for their “dogged resistance” against what he called Governor Fubara’s autocratic tendencies—sacrificing personal comfort to defend constitutionalism.
Turnah described Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Chief Dan Orbih as “champions of democratic resistance” for challenging what he called attempts to hijack PDP structures by powerful internal interests.
Anyanwu had dragged his controversial ouster as PDP National Secretary to the Supreme Court. At the same time, Orbih was credited with fending off a power grab by a group of South-South governors trying to take over the party.
“These men stood tall against tyranny in their party,” Turnah declared. “Their courage shows that democracy can still triumph when brave men rise.”
