Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has received 29 students from the state who are sponsored for postgraduate studies in India.

The Governor also announced a new round of foreign scholarships for postgraduate study at private and public universities within and outside the country.

Yusuf also received the 29 students who recently completed their master’s degrees at SR University in India, marking a significant milestone in the state’s ambitious foreign scholarship programme.

These graduates are part of a broader initiative by the Kano State Government to sponsor 1,001 students for advanced studies to empower the youth with global knowledge and skills.

At the welcoming ceremony, held at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Governor Yusuf, in the company of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, personally received the students, underscoring the importance the administration places on education and human capital development.

In a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawkin Tofa, Governor Yusuf congratulated the returning scholars on their achievements and praised their determination and hard work.

He highlighted the critical role the newly acquired knowledge would play in contributing to Kano’s socio-economic growth.

“Your success is a testament to the potential within Kano’s youth, and it is our responsibility to ensure that more talented individuals are given the same opportunities,” the Governor said.

In line with this commitment, Governor Yusuf announced reopening the application process for a new round of scholarship schemes tagged the 1,001 Postgraduate Scholarship Programme.

This move signals the administration’s ongoing dedication to nurturing the academic and professional potential of the state’s underprivileged youth.

The 29 graduates represent the first cohort of the 1,001-student foreign scholarship initiative, and the new recruitment phase aims to expand opportunities for more Kano students to pursue higher education abroad.

Earlier, the scheme’s beneficiaries arrived in Kano from Uganda, while others are scheduled to arrive in November and December, respectively.
